Someone here will explain how to set up an ambush. But am more concern about how to counter one.
So far I understand within my own team, though its an urban operations team, and we do not engage really much outdoors, but still important is to maintain our quadrants of fire.
The tendancy in combat, especially when shots been fired is everyone tends to meet that force full on, taking the bait, so our team holds back, the commander accesses the situation and then deploy troops were necessary. Taking this action makes sure that you dont take the bait.
In long term insertions, use a recon/point man that is small, wait, being sexist, man or woman that is small agigle and stealthy.
Taking these precautions work, but we only been hit by an ambush around 4 times, each time sucessfully we counter it, but I like more suggestions from people.

Me and my squad were ambushed once and we decided to counter attack with our own ambush. We ran someone back to the squad closest to us and had them position themselves so that we would be able to fall back, and with luck have the opposing force follow us and then get ambushed themselves. It worked for the most part, but we ended up having to move slowly and loose a few men to them in order for them to believe the bait was worth persuing.
